What Beer Goes Well with Mexican Food? Corona with Fajitas, Brown Ale with Chimichanga & More

One of the first things you are asked when you sit down at a restaurant is what you would like to drink. Anyone that frequents a Mexican restaurant on the regular, knows that there is nothing like a good beer to pair with your meal. There are many different kinds of beer out there and your Mexican lunch or dinner will always taste better if you know which beer works best with which meal. Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant is here to talk about what you should pair with what do take your Mexican meal to the next level.

How Do You Pair Beer with Mexican Food?

If you don’t know which beer to pair with your Mexican dish, you can always ask your server for their recommendation. Following are some of the different types of food you will find in a Mexican restaurant and the beers that pair best with them.
– Light, Fresh Food: If you are eating something that is light and fresh like fajitas, you are going to want the perfect beer to go with it. You should be looking for a beer that will match the light flavor that you’re getting ready to eat. Some of the best beers for these meals include Pacifico, Tecates or Corona. If you pick a heavier beer, you may find that it takes over and you can’t taste the delicious flavors of your dish.
– Fatty or Fried Food: There are plenty of fatty or fried foods for your enjoyment at your favorite Mexican restaurant. Whether you have chosen a pork dish or your favorite chimichanga, you’re going to be looking for a beer that carries with it that same caramelized flavor. Some good beers for this could be a brown ale beer that will give you that malty flavor you’re after.
– Spicy Food: It wouldn’t be a Mexican restaurant without some spice. You want to stay away from any beers that have a high IBU (International Bitterness Unit), high carbonation or high alcohol content. You should instead look for something refreshing like a pilsner or pale ale.
– Creamy Foods: There will also be plenty of cream sauces and cheese at a Mexican restaurant. You will look for a beer that is a little on the bitter side for dishes like smothered burritos or chili rellenos. An IPA is going to be the citrusy hop that you’re looking for to enhance the flavors in your meal. It can help to counterbalance the rich flavors that you find in creamy foods.
