Salsa is a major staple in Mexican food. We love to dip chips and top our favorite Mexican dishes with salsa. There are many different types of salsa and variations of salsa that have different flavors and purposes. Salsa is often a personal preference. However, some Mexican dishes can be enhanced with the right combination of salsa. Today Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant would like to focus on some of the different salsas and there amazing flavors.

Classic Pico de Gallo

Pico de Gallo is an all-time favorite for many of us. This simple salsa is full of flavor and can be made quickly. Pico de Gallo uses fresh uncooked ingredients such as onions, tomatoes, peppers and cilantro, with a dash of lemon juice. For those who like a spicier version of Pico De Gallo, some will add jalapeno or serrano chilies. Pico de Gallo is great in almost any Mexican dish such as tacos, burritos, and so much more. You can never go wrong when adding a little Pico de Gallo on your favorite Mexican dish.

Spicy Salsa Roja

Salsa Roja, or better known as “Red Sauce,” is primarily made from a red, ripe tomato which is where it gets its red coloring. Salsa Roja is made with tomatoes, onions, garlic and chili peppers which provide the spicy flavor. Salsa Roja is common in Tex-Mex and on traditional Mexican food. Salsa Roja is commonly used as a condiment which can top any Mexican food.

Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Salsa Verde or more commonly known as “Green Sauce,” is not made from tomatoes but instead is primarily made from tomatillos which gives it the green color. Along with tomatillos, Salsa Verde also uses peppers, onions, and cilantro. However, there are many variations of Salsa Verde and it is mostly considered a condiment. When it comes to Mexican salsa, Salsa Verde is another common popular sauce used inside and as a topping for many Mexican cuisines.

Creamy Jalapeno Salsa Verde

One of the more popular variations of Salsa Verde is the Jalapeno Salsa Verde. The primary ingredient is the tomatillo, then jalapenos, parsley, and cilantro are added to create this stronger, spicier salsa. For those who want more spicy flavor, they will look for a jalapeno version of Salsa Verde. This variation is also known as Argentinian sauce and often needs to be made from home as you will not find it in stores.
