Why is the Plate Always Hot at Mexican Restaurants? Hot Foods Taste Better than Meals that have Gone Cold & More

How often do you hear “watch out, the plate is hot!” when visiting Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant or some of your other favorite dining sites? Some people assume the plate is hot because the food is right out of the pan and is now heating up the plate. However, this is not so. Some plates are heated before the meal is placed on the plate. There is a science behind why some food is placed on a hot plate while other plates are room temperature or even cooled. Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant would like to share the scoop on why plates are hot and why diners should always be aware of the hot plate.

Hot Foods Taste Better than Meals that have Gone Cold

A warmer plate can make a major difference between an exquisite meal to a disappointing meal. There is a science behind a warm plate and that science is saying it makes a major difference on the food’s quality. Depending on the meal or food, you will want it served on a hot plate, or even a chilled plate. When it comes to a number of Mexican dishes, you will want to have the plate near the temperature of the meal that is being placed on the plate. If the plate is colder than the food, the food will begin to cool down quicker. When you have a cold Chimichanga or a cold enchilada, they are not nearly as tasty as they are when they are warm. A cold side of rice and beans can also be very disappointing. However, if you ever had a Fajita, you might know they come right out of the very pan they were cooked on. Therefore, often the Fajitas are sizzling. Can you imagine eating a cold or even a warm Fajita? By heating the plate you are served on, the meal with the right plate or even pan can make a major difference on how you can enjoy your meal.

Be Careful of Hot Plates

There are many dishes that are simply better when served on a heated plate, pan or kept warm. The cook must quickly transfer the meal onto a warm plate, then the server must bring out the meal while the plates are still warm. This is why you should always hear, “be careful the plates are hot” from your server. To ensure your plate stays warm on busier days, the plates with your meal can be placed under a heating lamp to ensure your food stays nice and hot and fresh. Not only are some plates heated, often the plate and meal might be placed in a boiler or oven. This is essential when you need melted cheese as part of your meal.

Often diners will wonder why the plates are heated. For those who see the cup half empty they sometimes fear their food was already prepared and quickly rewarmed. This is never the case in a quality restaurant. When a restaurant wants to provide quality food, a lot of effort goes into something as simple as a hot plate. When visiting Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant be careful of our “hot plates” and know that you are receiving quality food. We hope you enjoy all our quality Mexican dishes.
