Why is Guac So Good & How Do You Make Guacamole Taste Better? Ripe Chunky Avocados, Lots of Flavor & More

Is there anything better than a big bowl of delicious guacamole? We would have to say, no. guacamole is a side dish that is found in almost every Mexican restaurant that you walk into. This is for good reason too. There are very few people who can resist the delicious flavors that make up a good bowl of guacamole. However, if you don’t know what it is that makes guacamole so good, how can you make it for yourself? Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant is here to talk about why guacamole is one of those irresistible side dishes that no one can say no to.

You Need Ripe Avocados for Guacamole

It may be tempting to try and make guacamole with those avocados that are on the verge of being ripe. However, you should always resist that urge. They aren’t going to give you the same result. If you use avocados that aren’t quite ripe yet, your guacamole will end up tasting on the bitter side rather than delicious. In fact, you should be using avocados that are on the verge of going bad before you use ones that aren’t quite ripe yet. Always, always use the ripest avocados that you can find for good guacamole.

Is Guacamole Supposed to Be Chunky?

While everyone is going to have their own preference for the perfect guacamole, there are a lot of people that prefer to have chunks of avocado in their guacamole. Don’t be so quick to mash out those chunks of avocado. When you scoop up that guacamole with a fresh tortilla chip, you will be delighted when you taste that chunky avocado that you didn’t smash up earlier.

Flavorful Guacamole

There are many people that are perfectly happy with a little bit of salt and mashed avocados in a bowl. However, if you would like to truly enjoy some guacamole, you are going to want more flavor than that. There are several ingredients that can be added to your avocado that will give it the flavor that you’re looking for. Adding cilantro, onion, garlic, salt and lime will make a big difference in the flavor of your guacamole. Some people also like to add some green chili or even tomatoes for more flavor.

Does Lemon Juice Keep Guacamole from Turning Brown?

One of the biggest questions people usually have about guacamole is how to keep it from turning brown. There is actually no way to completely keep it from going brown from oxidation. However, you can do some things to keep it green for as long as possible. Adding citrus can help keep it green for longer, but the best way is to cover it with plastic wrap. The wrap has to be touching the surface of the guacamole though.
