What Kind of Food is Served at Mexican Restaurants? Tacos, Fajitas, Burritos, Nachos, Quesadillas & More

For being full of flavor and delicious goodness, Mexican cuisine is famous worldwide. There are unique dishes as well as dishes that combine a bit of everything- sweet and spicy flavors mixed with traditional Mexican spices. Looking over the menu might give you a dilemma of what to try. Luckily, you can return to the Mexican Restaurant and try other dishes to find your favorites. Today, we at Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant would like to discuss the general foods to try the next time you visit a Mexican restaurant.

Tacos

Tacos are a famous Mexican dish that always should be tried. Depending on what you prefer- chicken, pork, beef, or vegetarian options like onions and peppers, tacos can be filled with a variety of different meats and vegetables. Before being placed in an oven, the taco is then folded over in half. To give it that wonderful texture, it stays in the oven until it becomes crispy. Soft tacos are excellent as well and require a different cooking method. The corn tortilla is heated in a pan until it becomes warm and soft. Generally, soft tacos usually consist of meat, lettuce, cheese and veggies much like the hard tacos. Tacos make an amazing appetizer or a light meal.

Fajitas

Native to Mexico is a famous dish known as fajitas. They have become very popular all over the world since they made their first appearance in the 1950s. Usually cooked with onions and peppers by your favorite Mexican restaurant- served on a sizzling plate, Fajitas consist of meat or vegetables. To give it that extra flavor, Fajitas are traditionally served with guacamole, salsa or even cheese dip.

Burrito

A signature dish in any Mexican restaurant is burritos. A flour tortilla traditionally filled with meat, beans and cheese is a burrito. Also, one might also find vegetables like lettuce or tomatoes inside their delicious tortillas in addition to the traditional fillings.
Burritos are created in different varieties. The two common characteristics, however, include large size and simplicity of ingredients. With the tortilla filled to its brim and then folded over in thirds cooking involves a simple process. Until it becomes golden brown, the burrito is placed in a pan. With an assortment of ingredients, burritos can be served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Nachos

The Nacho is a Mexican food that has gained international fame. Nachos can be used a simple snack, appetizer of even the meal. The chips are tortilla triangles that have been baked until they become crispy and golden brown on top. Then, they are smothered in cheese, meat, vegetables, sour cream and guacamole, as well as beans.

Tamales

Everyone should try a tamale at least once. It can make for an excellent side dish as it is a steamed corn wrapped up inside a wheat dough filled with meat or vegetables. Though it is believed to have originated in the pre-Columbian era, it now appears on almost every Mexican restaurant’s menu. Generally, they are often served with rice and beans

Quesadillas

This dish consists of a flour tortilla filled with cheese and meat or vegetables, folded in half and then cooked until the outer surface becomes golden brown. Folding it in triangles is the traditional presentation.
