Who doesn’t love a good drink when they go out to eat at their favorite Mexican restaurant? Since it’s the beginning of a new year, there are likely many people that have made a commitment to eat healthier. Does this include alcoholic drinks for you? If it does, you may be wondering which drinks are healthier choices at your favorite Mexican Restaurant. Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant is here to talk about three different variations of alcoholic drinks to determine which one is the healthiest option.
Margarita on the Rocks
Since a good margarita is made to order and the nutritional content can vary greatly, we will be looking at this drink with a whole bunch of estimates. If you are looking for a health drink option, a margarita may not be at the top of your list because of the high caloric content. In about one 10 oz glass, you will be drinking about 550 calories, on average. They tend to have a decent amount of sugar in them, carbohydrates and because the rim of your glass is sprinkled with salt, sodium is an issue. For those dieting, you may be able to find a restaurant that sells “skinny” margaritas that are made from fresh fruit and have less sugar added to them.
Frozen Sangria Swirls
The saving grace for a frozen sangria is that this drink contains red wine. If you look up the health benefits of red wine, you will quickly see that there are a lot of them. This drink is high in antioxidants and is said to help lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugars and carries with it a decreased risk of heart disease and certain cancers. That being said, you shouldn’t ever drink too much alcohol because we all know it isn’t good for your health. The frozen sangria is basically a margarita that has been frozen and has swirls of red wine throughout it. The antioxidants won’t totally scratch the carbs and sugars that you are drinking, but it sure helps.
Popular Mexican Beers
Most people can openly admit that beer is not a healthy drink. However, even though it is depends on the brand, beer usually has less sugar and fewer calories than a margarita. One thing to think about as you are drinking beer, if you are wanting to be healthy, try drinking it from a bottle rather than a pint. This will help you have some self-control and help you avoid drinking too much.
