How Do You Act on a First Dinner Date? Do Not Order for Them, Overeat or Watch Them Eat!

When you are out on a first date, many people will fear the dining part of the date. Often people are judged the most critically during the time they sit down to eat. If you are on the first date with someone you might want to get to know better, and to make a good impression, there are a number of universal tips that can help you on your first date. Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant will share some dining etiquette tips to help ensure your date goes smoothly.

What Should You Do & Not Do on a First Dinner Date?

Do Put the Phone Away – This goes for both parties, while on a date it is very rude to be on your cell phone. When you are fiddling on your phone, it shows lack of interest in the other person. In this day and age it may seem very normal to be on your phone, Nonetheless, it is still considered a bad thing while on a date. It is important to engage the other person and give them your full attention.
Don’t Watch Them Eat – The only time you don’t want to make a lot of eye contact is when it is time to eat. People are often the most self-conscious when they are eating. Nothing is worse than having someone watch you put food in your mouth and eat. Simply keep your eyes down and on your plate while you eat. Only occasionally look up at the other person when talking.
Don’t Order For Them – Never assume what the other person will or won’t eat. Perhaps the person who was invited on the date will want you to be the spokesman. If so, you will want to know what they want, so give them time to look over the menu first. If they didn’t ask you to order for them, give them the time to order for themselves.
Don’t Over Eat – You will want to find the right meal portion to eat especially if you are dining before heading off to another activity. When you become too full, it can create a slightly negative vibe during the rest of the date. Being to full is uncomfortable and can put a damper on the rest of the night. Additionally, you do want to come off as piggish and never talk with your mouth full of food. If you are having a conversation while you eat which is normal, take smaller bites. This way you can talk without having a mouth full of food.
Do Be Patient With Slow Eaters – Some people are very slow eaters. If you discover that your date is a slower eater allow them to take their time. Do not make them feel rushed as it can come off as bad manners. You never want to make your date feel bad for being a slow eater. If you have planned something such as a movie, make sure to allow plenty of time for dining.
