There are many people that struggle with dietary restrictions of one sort of another. It can make eating at your favorite Mexican restaurants somewhat tricky if you don’t know what you should look for. To make sure your dining experience is a safe one, it is important to know what types of dishes you should be asking for when you struggle with a dietary restriction. Eddie’s Mexican Restaurant is here to talk about some of the most common dietary restrictions and give you some advice on what dishes might be best for you if you struggle with them.
Dietary Restrictions & What Dishes You Can Eat
Struggling with a dietary restriction can be a challenge. If you aren’t completely familiar with a menu and the dishes that are on it, you may have a difficult time finding something that will fit within your restrictions. Here are some different types of restrictions along with some food options to enjoy.
– Diabetes: When you struggle with diabetes, you have to watch your sugars and starches. Some good Mexican food options would include fajitas that is mostly made of fresh veggies and either steak, shrimp or chicken. You can eat it with or without the tortillas and can be a low carb meal for you. Taco salad can also be a good option because you don’t have to eat the tortilla bowl that it is usually served in.
– Gluten Free: Gluten is found in so much of the food that we eat since it comes from wheat products. However, Mexican food is a great option for those that are on gluten free diets as there isn’t much wheat available. Make sure you are ordering your meals with corn tortillas rather than flour and you should be good to go. You will more than likely have to avoid burritos, but should be able to choose from anything else on the menu.
– Cardiac Issues: If you suffer from heart problems, you definitely should be watching what you eat. Stick to your leaner meats like carne asada and chicken rather than chorizo. Salads are always going to be a good choice as well.
– IBS or Stomach Issues: People who suffer from stomach issues usually need to stay away from too much spice in their meal. Even though Mexican food has a menu full of spicy dishes, there are still options that can work with your restrictions such as fish tacos or dishes with mole sauce rather than red or green sauces.
